Clinical neuropsychology is recognized by the American Psychological Association (APA) as a professional psychology health service specialty. UNLV offers Experience within clinical neuropsychology as described in the APA Education and Training Guidelines.
Clinical neuropsychology doctoral students complete coursework, practicum placements, and mentored research involving evaluation of brain-behavior relationships in those who have psychiatric or neurological disorders. Clinical neuropsychology doctoral candidates complete this specialized training within our generalist model Clinical Psychology program, thus also receive training and develop skills as generalists in clinical psychology. The Neuropsychology Research Program offers extensive experience in neuropsychology and prepares students for post-doctoral studies in clinical neuropsychology and eventual board certification.
Post-graduation, members of the NRP have utilized their experience to matriculate into APA accredited internships, postdoctoral fellowships in neuropsychology at adult and/or pediatric-focused sites, and have become licensed psychologists. They have gone on to pursue careers among a wide variety of academic settings; universities, academic medical centers (such as VA hospitals or specialty clinics) and private practice.
